A general question that many people wonder about is “What affects employee performance in an organization?” Most people answer “their attitude.” There are many different ways to define and measure the many different attitudes a person can have in relationship to their job and their organization. There are different types of support in the workplace have been gaining more popularity over the recent years. Perceived Organizational Support (POS) is most often what has been researched. Then there is Social Support; this includes supervisor support and coworker support. One type of social support that is becoming more popular is Perceived Coworker Support (PCS). Most research done in the past on social support in the workplace has been focused on the idea of supervisory support. However, PCS is becoming more important in the workplace in regards to the relationship it has with other attitudes, more specifically, with job satisfaction, motivation, and general health. Therefore, it is becoming more widely researched and has been gaining a growing amount of attention from organizational psychologists.
Coworker support is an attitude that can be found in many different aspects of an organization. It can be found both in and outside the walls of the work place. Here are two videos that show different ways people help support their coworkers both in and outside of the workplace.
